The Land Rover Defender lives up to Land Rover’s renowned reputation for off-road capability while delivering a level of luxury that most SUVs can match. You can be fearless when you leave civilization behind and travel first-class when you make a run to the grocery store. The new 2024 Land Rover Defender gives you three available powertrains while letting you customize this model more easily. Land Rover has made a number of new upgrades for the 2024 model year so let's take a look at what's new in this stylish SUV at Land Rover Lakeland in Lakeland, FL.
Here's some of what's changed for 2024
The 2024 model lets you get the long-wheelbase Defender 130 model in the new Outbound trim that eliminates the third row and the back windows to make room for extra cargo space. This change also lets Valrico and Kissimmee owners do more customization on the exterior with a nice menu of accessories. In addition, the 130 trim is available with a supercharged 518-horsepower V8 that's an optional upgrade on 90 and 110 models. The new 2024 Defender now offers a County Exterior package on the 110 trim with unique 20-inch wheel designs, a two-tone exterior paint option and illuminated door sill protectors.
Other changes in the new Land Rover Defender
The 2024 version of the Defender comes with enhanced headlights, front fog lamps, a heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control, and an electric steering column adjustment. What's more, the new Defender is equipped with a digital gauge display, a premium audio system and a panoramic moonroof. Winter Haven and Plant City buyers will like knowing all these changes are now standard across the entire Defender lineup.
But hold on, we're still not finished. The Defender’s inline-six-cylinder and V8 engines are now available in two different states of tune. The extended-length Defender 130 model now offers a V8 engine and the County Exterior Pack comes with unique new retro-inspired styling touches.
Engines and performance options
The 2024 Land Rover Defender starts with a standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that you can count on for 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The next step up is a 3.0-liter supercharged six-cylinder engine that, as mentioned above, now comes in two states of tune. One gives you 296 horsepower and 347 pound-feet of torque and the higher-output version delivers 395 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque.
At the top of the mountain is a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 that also comes in two different flavors for 2024. One generates 493 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque and the more muscular version is good for 518 horsepower and 461 pound-feet of torque. That last engine option, of course, gives you the best acceleration, reaching 60 mph in 4.6 seconds.
Interior highlights
The inside of the new Defender strikes a balance between a rugged, off-road feel and the kind of premium quality you expect in a Land Rover. For example, on the rugged side of the ledger, exposed rivets in the door panels create a more tough-minded feel and an exposed magnesium beam runs across the entire dashboard. To give you a more intuitive control system there's an extension of the dashboard with buttons and switches to provide simpler control of the climate control system.
